Spotted! Sweet Snejana

Snejana means Snow White in english, how precious is that?

A vintage sweety!

Tell me where you got that fabulous nautical skirt?

"It's vintage, it was actually my mom's skirt."

Describe your personal style?

"A mix of classic, simple and vintage, I guess it could be considered a little girly, I rarely wear pants." Snejana will almost always wear a ballet flat and loves loves her skirts. Blouses are also a favorite, a little more corporate and tailored in the winter and loose and lovely in the spring summer. She loves a vintage piece here and there and told me about a fabulous off white skirt her mom found her with sea shells on the hem. She told me, "Second hand stores should never be overlooked, if you have patience you can find some beautiful things."

Spotted! Cutie Patootie's

Annabel and Abbie

The two A's and what a cute pair. With their colorful outfits and youthful glows they were a match made in style heaven. Ohhh to be young again.

Annabel (the brunette)

What is your personal style?

"Anything from Just Between Us" with a giggle. "I like colorful but not in a tacky way, dramatic but classic pieces" Annabel loves 1920's vintage pieces and will splurge if necessary. Dress's are another weakness of Annabel's and she doesn't mind spending the money when she finds one she loves.

Abbie (the blonde)

What is your personal style?

"Unique, I like to be different" Abbie loves to layer and likes flowing pretty fabrics. I was quite impressed when she told me she tends to splurge on items made in Canada. "If I see on the label Made in Canada I am more likely to spend a little extra" That a girl Abbie!

The Vintage Advantage

Nowadays most are familiar with the popularity of vintage clothing. Highly educated a vintage girl knows what to look for and how to wear it just right. You may have pondered with the idea, but unless you have a list of guidelines the hunt can be very overwhelming not to mention exhausting.

First off for all the skeptics, yes vintage technically means old but there is quite a difference between some ones old trash and some ones vintage treasures.

Vintage clothing is a culture, its Eras in fashion history lived out in modern day, on modern street’s, on modern people.

The first step is finding inspiration. Discover an era that interests you. Classic 1950’s June Clever, timeless Audrey Hepburn or maybe a little Betty Boop.

Once you are inspired find local thrift stores, flea markets, and vintage stores in and around your area. Usually the stores in older neighborhoods have the best selection.

Estate sales are more popular for purchasing furniture and the clothing is commonly overlooked. The families then take it to thrift stores and voila you find your vintage treasure.

Once you find a thrift store you need to know how to navigate your way around. Some stores have areas where they separate their vintage pieces. Most don’t. You need to know how to find vintage pieces verses peoples old stuff.

A good indication is fabric. Look for brocade, tulle, bold colors, geographic prints and extra bits of fabulousness. Labels are also a great way to separate vintage pieces. It’s very easy to recognize a vintage label. There usually written in cursive script. The label fabrics are simple and hand sewn.

Vintage pieces usually have longer hems. Nowadays designers can’t afford to waist fabrics so hems are usually very short. The advantage of longer hems is having that extra bit of fabric for alterations.

Soon enough you will develop a personalized eye for vintage pieces and sorting threw the madness of a thrift store will be a piece of cake.

Vintage clothing gives a nostalgic edge to an outfit. Wearing a designer jean with a 1960’s swing jacket is a unique and stylish way to unite the past with the present. I once heard a girl refer to her style as Nanny chic kind of like Mary Poppins mixed with a young urban trendsetter. She wore a vintage fur coat, a kooky amount of shiny estate sale rings and sleek modern underpinnings. It was one of the most fabulous things I had ever seen.

A vintage girl will never come across the common social misfortune of wearing the same dress as a rival, and that rival will never be able to accuse her of lacking personality.

The darling details of your vintage patent handbag may even catch the eye of Mr. Right. While you flaunt your old world charm you will be saving for a rainy day, helping the environment, inspiring others to step outside their box, and bringing back a touch of history to a modern world.

Pathetone Weekly The Spice Of Variety

It seems as though American designers of the 1930's were really thinking when British cinemagazine The Pathetone Weekly asked them to forecast what a women would be wearing in the year 2000. First released in March 1930 the Pathetone Weekly was said to incorporate both the amusing and strange. Some predictions were spot on while most were pretty far fetched. One things for sure they all were very amusing.  Electric head lights to help find an honest man, transparent net dress's to catch the opposite sex, and electric belts that scientifically kept a women's body at the perfect temperature. Thinking caps must of been placed perfectly on the heads of these designers. All ideas seemed to be in our favor. If only the brilliant forecasting had been put into production throughout the past decades. I have a feeling our love lives would be effortless and hot flash's would be a thing of the past.

Just Between Us would like to introduce downtown girl Beth and her cute Converse

Beth paid me a visit this fine evening and together we found some amazing items to add to her wardrobe. Beth lives and works downtown which in my opinion makes her a perfect downtown girl!

What is you personal style?

"Not naked" We both laughed, no for real, Beth is a casual girl that appreciates comfort, and what girl doesn't like to get her comfy on now and again.?

What do you love about Downtown?

"It's a mixed bag down here, I love all the different kinds of people and everyones so nice." My favorite part of the answer was when she said "I love that Just Between Us is still down here, it's different then it once was but it's still great"

Beth got a good dose of retail therapy when she purchased a cute pair of pirate printed Scanty legging's, a pinstripe pair of Development walking shorts, a pair of super soft Blue Tattoo jeans and a fun red Chocolate tank.

It was so much fun Beth! Hope to see you around the fabulous downtown :)

Spotted! Ooh la la Manon le chic!

Magnificent Manon

A little style scoop on Manon:

"I'm not so much a trend follower but I always try to look stylish." Manon has a more classic look but when asked if she likes a little edge once and awhile she replied "I have my moments"

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

"Too many" with a laugh

Best style advice anyone has ever given you?

"My mother once told me you can never be too over dressed"

What fashion rule do you live by?

"Never leave home with sweat pants on unless your going to yoga"

What do you splurge on?

"Dress's" I loved that she said that!

What do you love to save on?

"Designer Handbags"

Manon's Just Between Us steal:

The Hoss Intropia leaf printed dress was magnifique on Manon. It wasn't the first time Manon fell in love with this pretty piece. She saw it in our Waterloo store last season and was pleasantly surprised when she spotted it hanging on the racks of Just Between Us.
We are happy to announce Manon's usual splurge item has turned into a just Between Us steal!

An ocean blue pair of  Tevrow+Chase cropped yacht pants finished her shopping experience off quite nicely.

Odd Molly Loves You

The Diary Of Odd Molly

On March 25th of 2002 freelance designer Karin Jimfelt-Ghatan and word artist Per Holknekt meet in Stockholm to discuss a design project for an advertising agency. They find an instant mutual understanding so strong that they set aside that initial project only to shape their own brand new designer fashion label instead.

Less than 30 minutes from that first coffee, Odd Molly was born. And only some 6 years down that line, a true international fashion sensation. The core idea of the company was to let uninhibited design intuition lead the way, bringing forward a fabulous and positive message to women. Key ingredients were to not only make look great, but also to make feel great, using the corner stones of love-courage-integrity. Ever since that day the product development has evolved in the most tremendous ways, still those key ingredients have remained the same.

Odd Molly can today be found in the finest boutiques in over 1500 supreme locations in 38 countries. From Barneys in Tokyo to Fred Segal in Santa Monica and why not also the smaller corner stores of Dublin or Bordeux. Odd Molly has won international awards in many varied categories such as (only to name a few):

  • Intnl Prêt-á-portèr Award
  • Export Company Of The Year
  • Shooting Star of the year
  • Retail brand of the year
  • Guldknappen 2008, most prestigious design award in Sweden

Odd Molly is highly loved by multi generations and the love runs all the way from the women of small Greek villages to the pickiest celebritiy actresses of Hollywood.

The future of Odd Molly is already here and there is a multitude of projects in the making. Odd Molly is about to launch a line of skin care come fall 2009 and a fantastic eye-wear line (come spring of 2010) and a number of other brand extending projects are in the laboratory, yet to be revealed.

The greatest Odd Molly inspiration will always be you. So expect a lot.

My Swedish Obsession

A concept Swedes live by is Logom, which means “just enough” It was exactly Logom when I came across this unique designer. Just enough embroidery, just enough lace, and just enough perfect.

Just Between Us is now carrying just enough pieces of Odd Molly to satisfy our Swedish obsession.

We think it's sooo Shirley Temple in the movie Heidi, minus the goat and ringlets
